Matt Reid, Executive Vice President, WE Social Innovation & Global Public Affairs

Matt Reid founded and leads Waggener Edstrom’s Global Social Innovation and Public Affairs Practices. He works regularly with agency teams and clients on issues of public debate, and policy, environment and sustainability, and corporate responsibility and global citizenship.  

His 23 years of experience include government affairs, crisis communications, corporate reputation management and issues management for some of the world’s leading companies, NGOs and brands. He previously led the agency’s Corporate Communications practice. 

Before joining Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, Matt worked for Fleishman-Hillard, where he provided corporate and public affairs counsel to a number of regional and national organizations. Before joining Fleishman, Matt was with GCI Group, where he worked with Chevron Corp. on issues ranging from environmental remediation to crisis communications to advancing the visits of foreign heads of state.  Matt also led the team working with General Motors Corp. to implement a media and labor communications program in advance of GM’s contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers union, to communicate about GM’s plans for specific sites and plants, and during a strike that shut down all of GM’s North American operations.  He worked with Starbucks Coffee Company to design and implement a regional strategy for philanthropy and community engagement at a time the company faced tremendous local pushback on its expansion plans. 

Matt served as a director of campaign services for Clinton Reilly Campaigns, a leading California political consulting firm, where he served in senior campaign and consulting roles on a variety of political campaigns, including those for Kathleen Brown for governor of California and Richard Riordan for mayor of Los Angeles. In addition, he served as a director at the San Francisco-based political consulting firm Terris & Jaye.

Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Nevada, Reno. He and his wife have two children.
